Update expected on ANC vote dispute
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Amid a number of questions on a vote dispute for the ANC's top six leadership, the party spokesperson says the steering committee, charged with running the conference, met until the early hours of the morning.
The African National Congress’ (ANC) steering committee is expected to give an update to delegates on the dispute around the outcome of the vote for the top six leadership.
It comes amid reports that as many as 68 votes were not included in the final count for the new leadership, bringing into question Ace Magashule’s election as secretary-general.
Outgoing ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says while he can’t speculate on the exact complaint, he adds if a formal dispute was laid, the elections agency will inform the steering committee which would then take a decision.

“They will report that decision to the plenary,” says Kodwa. “We are aware they met until even this morning, but they will report this to the conference at 10 o’clock.”
He says the party will update the media on the decisions taken and the way forward after the plenary considered the matter.
This has lead to speculation as to whether the national conference will be able to conclude on time.
But Kodwa says the newly-elected ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to delivering his closing address between 15:00 and 17:00 on Wednesday afternoon.
He says they do not want to put any delegate on a bus late at night.
“We have got delegates who come far, Western Cape for example, takes 20 hours by road, and we want our comrades to arrive safe.”
