UPDATE: Child flung from mother's arms in freak crash dies

The toddler in yesterday's collision on the N2 has succumbed to her injuries.

The two-year-old was travelling with her parents when their car broke down in the middle lane near the uMdloti off-ramp, north of Durban.
The mother then got out of the car while holding her baby and a vehicle collided into them from behind, killing her on the spot.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says the IPSS medical rescue transported the critically ill 2-year-old patient through to the hospital.
"Unfortunately, shortly after arrival, the patient succumbed to her injuries. Our condolences go out to the affected family."
