Union concerned over rising COVID-19 infections among police members

Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU), says it's worried about the number of members who've tested positive for COVID-19.

More than 7,000 South African Police Service members have contracted the virus so far, leading to the temporary closure of some police stations.
In KZN, Amanzimtoti, Phoenix, Chatsworth, Westville, Lamontville and Durban Central were affected.
POPCRU’s Richard Mamabolo says it seems safety protocols aren't being followed.

"We think that part of the reasons why the numbers have been increasing is because station commanders and those who are part of correctional service are not been abiding by these lockdown principles which has led to a lot of members being infected.
"There is already understaffing within correctional services."
