Unemployment rate in SA hits record 13-year high

South Africa's unemployment rate has hit 34.4%, the highest in 13 years.
It's up 1.8 percentage points from the first three months of the year.
Stats SA has released the latest figures of the Quarterly Labour Force Survey.
Statistician-general Risenga Maluleke says over half-a-million more people were out of work between April and June.

"The number of the unemployed increased by 584 00 people from 7.2 million people to 7.8 million people."
Joblessness remains rife among young people.
Some 64 percent of youth aged 15-24 are unemployed.
The rate is at 42.9 percent among 25-34 year-olds.
Irrespective of gender, the black African and coloured population groups remain vulnerable in the labour market.
