Community members in uMzumbe, on the south coast, say they've been left shaken and terrified following the murder of local teacher Tholakele Shelembe.
The body of the 53-year-old primary school teacher was found in her Nyangwini home on Sunday.
She'd suffered stab wounds and had been strangled.
Two vehicles were also stolen from her property.
Police have arrested four suspects in connection with her killing.
Ward 11 councillor Sabelo Maphumulo says women and girls living in Mthwalume don't feel safe.
"Following that sad incident definitely most of our people in the community, in particular the women, are definitely very unsafe. That we cannot run away from, it's a fact. It just needs us, more especially men in the community to gather together and try to deal with this situation with assistance from the police."
The four suspects, aged between 18 and 36, are due to line up in the Umzumbe Magistrate's Court on Thursday on murder and theft charges.
