Umzinto residents protest over water issues
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Umzinto's been rocked by a community-led protest with residents calling for a stable supply of water.
Newswatch understands that all entrances into the south coast town on Monday morning have been blocked.
Residents, who've been battling with an intermittent supply of water and stoppages, from areas including Ghandinagar, Hazelwood, Nkonkas and Roseville [Sanathan, Mistake Farm and Farm Isonti] have signed petitions that will be submitted to Ugu officials.
Community activist Ash Moodley says they have been struggling with issues since last year.
He's called for the municipality to be placed under administration.
"Water is a basic need for every single resident around South Africa. We are not fighting anybody. We are standing in solidarity.

"There are people from all communities - multi-racial we are standing in solidarity to state that if Ugu District Municipality services that we are paying for they need to go under administration because they are the middle man at the moment.
"They are getting wat supply from Umgemi Water so if they can't do their jobs they need to go under administration and be controlled by people who can give us the services that we are paying for."
The police's Nqobile Gwala says they are monitoring the situation.
"This morning at 4am about 150 people blockaded all the entrances to Umzinto town. They are blocking the road with burning tyres and the road is still closed. Police are at the scene to monitor and stabilise the situation."
