Umlazi flood evacuations underway, pupils prioritised

KZN Human Settlements says the evacuation of families affected by recent floods in Umlazi is on track.

At least 1 200 people were affected, with more than 50 homes either completely or partially destroyed by mudslides at the township's H section.
The Department says around 50 people have been moved to a self-catering facility.

MEC Siboniso Duma says plans have been made to accommodate pupils returning to school next week.
"We already assembled a team. Education is assessed almost 50 pupils who must go to school on Monday. So the scholar transport must be provided for those because education as already highlighted, is a macrocosm in the community.
"When you've got those who are coming to school, they must be protected and we must ensure that they are not having an outstanding matters."
