Umlazi family's growing concern as search for missing woman continues
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
An Umlazi family is worried that something sinister may have happened to their 21-year-old relative who went missing on the second day of her new job last week Monday.
Welile Mhlungu's family last saw her leaving their Umlazi CC Section home for work at 4:30am last week Monday.
She was meant to do plumbing work for a business in Verulam, north of Durban but the family say they were told she never arrived at work. Her phone has been switched off.
"It's very bad. We are hoping that she will maybe come back and that she's with friends. You can see that something happened to her. She's a good child, and a quiet child who doesn't attend those things on the weekend. I'm sure there is something that happened to her - although I cannot say what," her uncle, Thokozani Mhlungu said.
Police say a missing persons case has been opened.

They have urged anyone who has possibly seen Mhlungu, who was wearing a blue overall and black boots, to come forward.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is requested to contact Captain Ndimande on 082 3500 843/031-909 9923 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
