Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
uMhlathuze officials say despite changes to the operating hours for public transport services - taxi ranks in the municipality are being disinfected daily.
Ranks are being sanitised as part of efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus - which has infected at least 1 686 people and the death toll climbing to 12.

uMhlathuze's Mdu Ncalane says disinfection efforts at passenger facilities will continue for the duration of the 21-day lockdown.
"You can imagine if one person is infected at a taxi rank and it's transmitted to a number of people - it will be difficult to trace all those people who engaged with that particular person who is infected.
"So the precautionary way is to disinfect the ranks every afternoon after the taxi ranks have been closed for the day," he said.
