uMhlathuze denies lack of waste trucks
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
uMhlathuze has
rubbished claims that it has only three waste trucks servicing the entire north
coast municipality.
The municipality's Bongani Gina says it currently has 12 well-oiled and running waste collection trucks.
"We have five trucks dedicated to collecting waste in the outer west covering Richards Bay and surroundings. We have five more at Empangeni Centre. Those cover the western parts of the city we also have two for the Esikhaleni area."
Gina has been responding to a media statement issued by the DA in KZN on Monday.
The party said an oversight visit to uMhlathuze's waste removal services revealed a dire shortage of service trucks.

This, according to the party, has led to a major increase in illegal dumping in parts of Richards Bay.
The DA says a backlog of fleet repairs is to blame, but Gina says they're in the process of purchasing four more vehicles.
"We believe that the municipality's doing well when it comes to waste management and waste collection, hence we have been voted the cleanest city in the province for four consecutive years until last year.”
