uMhlathuze criminals 'taking advantage' of broken streetlights

Calls for uMhlathuze to fix broken streetlights are intensifying, with the Democratic Alliance saying criminals have been taking advantage of the situation.

Community members discovered the body of a 19-year-old woman in Ezikhaleni on Monday. 


Last month, a 23-year-old woman was killed and her remains were found near the Nseleni Library. 


The DA's Sihle Magubane has appealed to local government to step in.

"These murders are coinciding with a campaign that we are currently running as a party. 


"In the process, we have been collecting municipal grievances from members of the community and engaging with us that if we can sort out the issue of street lighting, it will go a long way to eradicating the violent crimes that happen at night.


"Tragically, during that whole process, we then lost these two young persons."
