Umgeni Water probes corruption allegations

Umgeni Water has launched an investigation into alleged corruption practices, at the water utility.
The claims came to light after an email was sent by an employee to high profile people.
It is alleged that some officials at Umgeni Water awarded tenders for projects and services, in exchange for money.

Umgeni Water spokesperson Shami Harichunder says they are taking these allegations seriously.
"Umgeni Water can confirm that an anonymous email has been sent to various stakeholders, making very serious allegations against some personnel of the organisation. These allegations are about corruption kickback. The board of Umgeni Water takes these allegations very seriously and as a consequence has launched an investigation into some of them," he said.
