Umgeni Water confirms another year of water restrictions
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Umgeni Water wants restrictions in areas it supplies to be extended for at least another year.
The utility is concerned that water resources in the Umgeni operations area have not improved.
Umgeni, along with a joint operations committee, have applied to the Department of Water and Sanitation to have the 15% water restrictions maintained.

Spokesperson, Shami Harichunder says Albert Falls dam - currently at 32% capacity - could run dry by the end of the year.
"This has become necessary - the water resource situation in the Umgeni operational area has not improved. This means there isn't sufficient water available presently to meet the full needs of eThekwini, Pietermaritzburg and Umgungundlovu. The amount of rainfall expected in Spring and Summer will not be significant," he said.
