KZN water restrictions to remain in place
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
The widespread heavy rains experienced through KwaZulu-Natal over the past few days have had little effect on major dams in the Umgeni system.
Umgeni Water says between 30 and 50-millimetres of rain was recorded at Midmar and Albert Falls dams.
Umgeni Water spokesperson, Shami Harichunder, says the impact has been marginal.
"Albert Falls has risen by about 0,5 percent and Midmar Dam by about 0,2 percent over the past three days. What this means in fact is that the levels in the two major dams essentially remain the same - at around 33-percent at Albert Falls and 79-percent at Midmar," he said.

"Umgeni
Water and the municipalities - which are eThekwini, Umsunduzi and
Umgungundlovu - have taken the precaution of ensuring there is
sufficient water available to last at least until mid-2018. This will
occur because we have restrictions of 15-percent [reduction in usage by
consumers] in place. That was one of the reasons why the restrictions
were put in place - to ensure there's sufficient water available," he
said.
Meanwhile, between 160 and 167-millimetres of rainfall was recorded near Amanzimtoti and at Umtwalume on the KZN South Coast over the weekend.
