Umalusi says matrics from the Classes of 2020 and 2021 were forced to navigate multiple changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The quality assurance council is briefing members of the media on its approval of last year's matric results.

"The class of 2021 was the first grade 12 cohort to experience the reality of the pandemic, for two consecutive years in other words these learners went through the pandemic in grade 11 and again in their matric year,” chairperson John Volmink said,

Meanwhile, the matric results will be published on public platforms, when they're released this week.

READ: Court rules matric results may be published

A high court has granted AfriForum and two other applicants an urgent interdict after they challenged the Department of Basic Education's decision to not share the final exam results - citing rules contained in the Protection of Personal Information Act.

But AfriForum argued that it was in the public interest to do so. Basic Education previously said that it would abide by the court's decision on the matter.

The department did not oppose the application.
