UKZN suspends classes following student protests
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
The university made the announcement earlier today, amid week-long protest action by students demanding proper residences and no-fee increments for the 2017 academic year.
University spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka says the SRC approached management - requesting classes be suspended to allow for further negotiations.
"After much discussions, the university decided that it will of course be in the interest of the university to have the academic programme suspended so that we can resolve whatever issues are there, and we do not have to fear that other students that [would] want to go to classes are not safe," he said.
Protests turned violent at the institution's PMB campus yesterday, and police fired rubber bullets to disperse the violent students.
At least this time we know exactly what the strike is for #UKZN

Ukzn people are clever. They know that once they suspend lectures the strike will die down. I'm just glad I don't have to wake up early tmrw

UKZN's academic program is supposedly suspended by I'm waiting for a class and then a test. This is unconstitutional
