UKZN students develop innovative medical app
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Two University of KwaZulu-Natal medical students say they have come up with a solution to help people who forget to take their medication on time.

Mohamed Suleman and Kapil Narain have created 'Pill Alert' - a groundbreaking cell phone app that they have taken to Switzerland.
The pair presented the app to an international audience at the World Health Organisation in Geneva this year.
The students were selected as one of the top ten finalists among 163 proposals in a contest.

Participants were asked to find solutions to antimicrobial resistance. The condition threatens the effective prevention and treatment of a range of infections caused by bacteria, parasites and viruses by antibiotics.
Suleman, who is also a UKZN summa cum laude pharmacy graduate, says being able to showcase their work on a global stage is a step forward for the app.
"When they had a look at our proposal, they asked us to come over, and so we did the presentation. We received some feedback, and we intend to incorporate that feedback into our proposal, and we hope to be working with the Department of Health and the Department of Science and Technology in the new year," he said.
