UKZN SRC: Online registrations disadvantage some students
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Protesting students at UKZN's Westville and Pietermaritzburg campuses say online registration is one of the reasons why they decided to take to the streets.
On Friday, a group of about 50 protesters are said to have stormed Westville campus and pelted security officers with stones.
A guardhouse and a car were damaged.
The protests continued on Monday.

The SRC’s Malusi Zuma says student are not happy with the online system.
"Students are complaining about the online registration for the returning students as well as the issues of permits access on the campuses and residences and also NSFAS not registering our students."
Zuma says although online registration isn't a new concept, it's a process that should be phased in.
"Now we are disadvantaging the students that are going to be our first-year students coming from very disadvantaged backgrounds, rural areas who do not understand how to access an offer online and do not know how to pay and who do not understand which emails they must use.
"It becomes the burden of the SRC to assist the student but now we cannot assist everyone at the same time.”

Meanwhile Zuma's called for demonstrations to be peaceful and condemned the violence by some students and security personnel.
