Ugu water projects set to be completed in 2025

Water and Sanitation Minster Senzo Mchunu has called for the
fast-tracking of water projects in the Ugu District municipality to ensure
supply.
This as the process to build two bulk water projects, the Lower Umkhomazi Water Project and the building of a third dam for the district, have begun as part of long-term solutions.
In recent months the south coast district has been under the spotlight due to the municipality's inability to provide a reliable water supply.
Some residents even took to the streets in protests saying they have had no running water in months.
Speaking during a ministerial briefing to discuss the issues affecting the district on Friday, Mchunu said both projects are estimated to be completed in 2025.

"The project will bring or deliver more than 100 megalitres per day and it will do more than closing the deficit that we have of 70 megalitres, it will cater for any further demand going forward.
"The only problem that we have, apart from just starting, is that it's going to take some time."
Premier Sihle Zikalala will convene a special imbizo at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Complex on Tuesday, where the residents will get the opportunity to directly interact with the premier about water challenges facing the district.
