Ugu wants district declared a disaster zone
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The Ugu District Municipality says it wants the region to be declared a disaster zone this week, as parts of the south coast are still in the throes of major water disruptions.
The supply's been cut off to some areas - affecting thousands of people - since a week ago.
The municipality says workers taking part in an illegal strike are to blame - it's accused them of tampering with infrastructure.
"The executive committee has resolved to the Cabinet so that we can institute the act of the disaster within the district so that we will able to get more capacity in terms of dealing with the issues. We are hoping the Cabinet sitting on Wednesday should be able to getmore resources," the municipality's France Zama said.

Zama says senior government officials met with local police on Friday and established a joint operations centre.
Ugu says it's dispatched water tankers to the affected areas like Hibberdene, Ramsgate and Gamalakhe but some people have told us they haven't seen them.
