Ugu Municipality takes hard stance on defaulting businesses

Ugu municipality has cut off water supply to several institutions for non-payment.
It says over half a billion rand is owed to it by government departments and businesses and residents.
Areas affected include the CBD and industrial areas.
Ugu's France Zama says water to these customers will remain shut off until they settle their arrears.

"In terms of ensuring that we recuperate the revenue, we need to terminate all the services to those clients that have not been paying their accounts. Indeed, a lot of institutions and private businesses are going to be affected.
"Clients are not paying for their services. It then deprives the municipality the strength in terms of being able to provide effective services to the community," he said.
