UCT students, Nehawu protest outside parly
Updated | By Troye Lund
Outside the parliamentary precinct, University of Cape Town students were demanding to see President Jacob Zuma and his Minister of Higher Education and Training, Blade Nzimande.

Inside the gates, parliamentary staff, who belong to Nehawu and who had downed tools over performance bonuses, were also protesting.
Nehawu’s members are upset that government can find money for a ballooning VIP protection budget but continues to pay some workers who have been working in the legislature for 20 years a minimum wage.
While Nehawu’s strike follows its vociferous objections to the way in which parliamentary staff have been re-vetted by security and intelligence agents, students did not get to speak to Zuma today as he was out of the country.
Nzimande did not appear either and when Minister of Public Works Thulas Nxesis was dispatched to address them he was booed and dismissed.
