Naicker says a team of Mariannhill officers went to the property at around 3am on Wednesday.
"Police officers requested entry from the suspects, the occupants of the home opened fire at the police officers through the windows, and there was an exchange of gunfire. Both suspects, who were in their 20s, were fatally wounded during the shoot out."
Naicker says two pistols were found in their possession.
Marianhill police have opened an inquest and are investigating several other charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
