Two suspects killed in Mandeni shootout
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Two cash-in-transit heist suspects have died in a shootout with police in Mandeni, on the north coast.
Police officers had been tailing a vehicle that's been linked to a number of crimes in the area.
"When the police tried to stop the said vehicle, the suspects started to shoot towards the members and the members retaliated. Two unlicensed firearms were recovered.
"Those recovered firearms will be sent for ballistics testing to check whether they were involved in any other crimes in the province. At this stage, the police are still at the scene and are doing their investigations," the police's Thulani Zwane explains.
The incident happened just after the Mandeni off-ramp in the northbound carriageway. Zwane says detectives and other officials are on the scene.

Motorists are being urged to use alternate routes as that entire section of the road has been closed.

On Monday, three robbery suspects were killed in a shootout with police.
