Police have spent hours combing the scene of a deadly shootout with wanted suspects near Mandeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the recovered firearms will be taken for ballistics tests to determine whether they were used in any other armed robbery cases in the province.
Three suspects were killed during an exchange of gun fire on the N2 in the evening.
Police say officers acted on a tip-off earlier yesterday and began pursuing the driver and passengers of a BMW.
Zwane says when officers tried to flag them down, the suspects opened fire on police leading to a shootout.
