Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Two Home Affairs staff members, nabbed by the Hawks, are accused of being the masterminds of an operation that issued birth certificates, social grants and IDs, illegally.
The pair, arrested in Richmond, will appear in a Durban court today on fraud charges.
Hawks officials believe the suspects belong to a large syndicate.
Simphiwe Mhlongo says SASSA cards and IDs were found in their homes.
"On Friday, members swamped on the suspect in their place of work. Members proceeded to their places of residence where a search was conducted. SASSA cards, a list of ID numbers and ID books were recovered in their places of residence."
