Two Durban cops killed in 24 hours

A police officer has died after being shot along Winter Avenue, off Musgrave Road in Durban today.

The SAPS officer was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after emergency personnel treated him on the scene.
"We have just received confirmation that the policeman has passed away in theater at the hospital. Unfortunately, the gunshot wound was too severe, although all efforts were attempted by surgeons and trauma teams," says Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson.
Details surrounding the shooting are not known at this stage.

Meanwhile, there's a manhunt for the suspects who shot and killed an off-duty police officer in New Germany on Thursday night.
It's alleged the 55-year-old was coming from a shop in the area when a car pulled up next to him.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says the occupants opened fire on the officer.

"They fired several gunshots towards him and drove away. Nothing was taken from him, his service pistol was found in his hand, and his wallet and cellphone were still on his possession. The case has been transferred to the Hawks for further investigation," she says.
