Twenty arrested following KZN truck attacks

KwaZulu-Natal police say operations have been intensified along major routes in the province following several attacks on trucks this weekend.

Two trucks were set alight on the N3 in Ashburton and N2 in Kokstad in the early hours of Sunday after the drivers were ambushed.

A further two trucks were torched in Montclair, south of Durban this morning.

Police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says 20 people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the violence.

"Yesterday, a total of eleven trucks had blocked the road to the Port of Richards Bay. In that area, we managed to respond immediately and locate the drivers. Eleven people are arrested and detained at Richards Bay Saps for public violence and the obstruction of traffic," said Naicker.

Four others were arrested in Durban's Malvern area last night.

"They were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as bottles containing petrol."

In the early hours of this morning, five people were arrested in Estcourt.

"The vehicle they had been travelling in was positively identified in a case where a truck was set alight yesterday."
