Trump posts mugshot as he's released on bail in Georgia case

Donald Trump has become the first former president to have had his mugshot taken.

He's been booked on more than a dozen charges, all concerning alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election result in the state of Georgia.

 

Trump was released on bail of $200 000. 

 

Speaking to reporters afterwards at Atlanta airport, Trump insisted he's done nothing wrong.

 

"I’ve never had such support and that goes with the other ones too. What they’re doing is election interference.I’ve never had such support and that goes with the other ones too. What they’re doing is election interference.”

 

The former president's posted his police mugshot on X, formerly known as Twitter. 

 

Accompanying his first post on the platform in two years are the phrases 'election interference' and 'never surrender'.  

 

The message also has a link to his 2024 presidential campaign.  

 

Caren Morrison a former federal prosecutor at Fulton County jail says the image will be shared far and wide.

 "If you had a mugshot of a former president and potentially a future sitting president, I've heard rumours of many plans to monetize the mugshot to sell t-shirts with the mugshot on it."

 

He's accused of colluding with 18 other defendants to overturn the 2020 election result in the southern state.
