Chinese assistance with energy crisis ‘will make no difference’
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Independent energy expert Tshepo Kgadima believes the Memorandum of Cooperation between South Africa and China on energy will not make any difference to the country's electricity situation.
"South Africans are being put in a place whereby they will continue to be prisoners of hope with no hope for parole from the rolling blackouts which has been totally devastating to the economy and financially ruining consumers as well as Eskom."

South African and China signed the MoC on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg this week.
Kgadima says the agreement should have been based on refurbishing the existing fleet.
"What the minister should have told South Africans and the agreement he should have signed have been of joint collaboration on returning to service the 17 000 megawatts of coal-fired power stations and to ensure that they retrofit clean coal technologies onto those power stations and therefore provide this country with energy security through base load power from our abundant coal reserves."
