Trucks urged not to head to Richards Bay port ahead of EFF shutdown
Transnet has asked stakeholders to stop dispatching trucks to the Port of Richards Bay, three days before Monday's planned national shutdown.
It says it's concerned about the potential impact on traffic, and has asked them to evacuate all long-distance trucks from the port on Sunday.
In a letter to clients, the freight logistics group said that safety and contingency plans are being introduced ahead of protest action, led by the EFF, in response to load shedding.
Transnet says it's also concerned about the impact on trucks transporting dry bulk minerals to the port.

Meanwhile, uMhlathuze Ward 3 councillor Henning de Wet says the halting of local business at the port on Monday will have a significant impact on the local economy.
"There has been stakeholder engagements between the municipality, the SAPS, private security companies and CPFs working on contingency plans for the event they anticipate on the day.
"Further to that the community is strongly condemning these threats on private businesses that the EFF is giving although they have the right to protest the right does not allow them to infringe on the rights of businesses to operate."
