Truck owner points to syndicate in Durban trailer theft
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi
A Durban truck owner believes one of his drivers may be involved in the disappearance of a cargo trailer.

The driver was last seen early Sunday, driving a loaded container from Durban Port to Mahatma Gandhi Road.
However, the delivery was never completed.
Police say only the horse was recovered. It was found abandoned about 500 metres from the delivery point, with keys inside.
The truck owner, who has asked not to be named, says a witness allegedly saw the driver helping men unhook the trailer before driving off.
" They unhooked my trailer, and they asked him to move back because they wanted to hook the trailer, and he never picked up that it was being attacked. They told him that they were swapping the horses. My driver went to his window, and they asked him to move back. They unhooked my horse.

"They left the truck on one side and hooked it onto my trailer. And my driver waited for some time. Around four o'clock in the morning, he left for my client's premises. He was only left with the truck. No container, no trailer."
He believes it was not a hijacking, but an inside job linked to a syndicate in Clairwood.
" I need my trailer back. I went around looking for the past two days, trying to find out if they left my trailer and the container on the roadside, like everybody says, once they finish, do what they've done, and they'll leave your trailer on the roadside, with the container empty.
"So I was looking for that yesterday and talking to the guys, and every guy is telling me this is a syndicate. It's happening so often now that there's a quantum move around."
Police have opened a theft case. They say the driver, trailer and the load are still missing.
Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
