Truck overturns, spills paraffin on N3
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A paraffin tanker has overturned spilling its contents onto the Johannesburg-bound lane of the N3 on Van Reenen's Pass.

The spillage then caused a truck on the Durban-bound carriageway to jack-knife, blocking both sides of the busy route.
"The one was carrying paraffin. And as a result of the spillage which has occurred. The entire road had to be closed. At this stage, all emergency services are on scene," said the N3 Toll Concession's, Con Roux.
Roux says they are still unable to say when the road will be opened again.
"Our advice to motorists at this stage is to please either avoid the area and take an alternative route or to delay departure to the Van Reenen part of the N3."
Update: Accident (overturned tanker) on the N3 to JHB at the Van Reenans Pass. The DBN bound (Southbound) of the carriageway has opened. The JHB bound (Northbound) remains closed due to clean up process. #KZNTraffic

Possible alternative route: Take the exit to the R74 from the N3 (JHB bound) towards Colenso/Winterton, and rejoin the N3 via the N5 at Harrismith. #KZNTraffic https://t.co/4PJcTE49m5
