Truck driver shot, wounded along N2 near Richards Bay

A truck driver is fighting for his life after being shot in an apparent hijacking on the north coast.

Emergency services attended to the scene on the N2 freeway in the Mtunzini area - south of Richards Bay.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says the man sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was left for dead on the side of the road.
Herbst says the driver is in a critical condition.
"The LenMed One aeromedical helicopter has been activated to rapidly airlift the patient from the scene to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required," Herbst said.
