Trial decision expected in Verulam rape case

A decision on whether the man accused of repeatedly raping his stepdaughter will stand trial - is expectedin a few weeks’ time.

The man was arrested last year in Verulam, after the 10-year-old child told neighbours about her ordeal. It’s alleged the accused sexually abused the girl over a five-year period and kept her captive. 

The accused limped into court this morning wearing a white T-shirt and his head freshly shaved.

The 43-year-old man is facing charges of rape, sexual assault, sexual grooming and exposing a child to pornographic material.

The State Prosecutor told the court that the state had concluded its investigations and that the matter would be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions today for a decision on whether to proceed to trial.

The DPP’s decision is expected at the end of next month.
