Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A Verulam man's going on trial on Thursday, for allegedly abusing his then 11-year-old stepdaughter.
Prosecutors say the child had been kept behind locked doors for five years.
The 44-year-old stepfather, who's appearing in the Durban High Court this morning, faces charges of sexual abuse and rape.
The child was abused hundreds of times from 2013 until 2018.

Prosecutors say the girl had suffered a host of atrocities since the age of 5-years-old when her mother passed away.
Her stepfather allegedly exposed her to pornography and forced her to participate.
They say she'd also been paid for sexual favours for other men.
The girl's abuse came to light in June, two years ago, when she confided in a neighbour about what had been going on.
