Ex Durban cop begins 33-year sentence for double murder

A former police constable's begun serving a 33-year prison sentence for murder and attempted murder.

Lindani Ngobese appeared before the Mtubatuba Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old officer opened fire on four men - killing two of them - at a wedding in Hluhluwe two years ago.
He was off-duty at the time.
The NPA's Natasha Kara said: "At the time of committing the offence the accused was a member of the South African Police Service's National Intervention Unit in Durban. The accused committed the offence using his service firearm."
