Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga and her VIP team are said to be receiving support and counselling after they were hit by robbers in Gauteng on Monday.
Police Minister Bheki Cele has confirmed the incident.
He says Chikunga and her two protectors were robbed of personal belongings and two service firearms on the N3 between Vosloorus and Heidelberg.

A manhunt has since been launched for the alleged perpetrators.
Speaking at the POPCRU's National Congress underway at the Durban ICC, Cele said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"They are taking everybody on these criminals. We nearly lost the minister, who would have been shot and killed by the criminals. They took everything: cell phones, money, laptops, everything.
“So, the war has been declared by criminals, so when you find the war, you don't ask who started it."
Minister Chikunga has been provided with alternative resources in the meantime.
