Transport Dept to unveil new N2/M41 interchange

Transport officials say the new Mount Edgecombe interchange, north of Durban, will result in less congestion on two busy routes.

 A delegation of government officials and the Transport Minister have made their way there this morning for the official launch of the newly completed N2/M41 interchange.  

The department says traffic congestion which results in vehicles backing up on the M41 and onto the N2 - affects some 40 000 vehicles during peak hours.

Transport's Ishmael Mnisi says aside from the benefits for motorists - the interchange has already benefited many communities in the area.

"This is a multi-million rand project. The challenges for us were to ensure that we employ as many local people as possible and also retaining the necessary engineering skills to make sure that we execute this project with the maximum capacity and maximum technical knowledge - taking into consideration that we needed to empower local people and teach them skills," he said.
