Transport dept to 'reimagine' taxi industry

The Transport Ministry says plans to formalise and regulate the taxi industry are in place.
Minister Fikile Mbalula led a webinar discussion about critical issues relating to the industry, like unity and leadership.
He was joined on Sunday by a panel comprising Santaco president Phillip Taaibosch and former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.

Mbalula says government cannot turn a blind eye to the problems faced by the industry.
"This is the starting point in our commitment to reimagine the taxi industry of the future; this also includes the deliberate effort to empower the industry so that it owns its own value chain."
