Transnet pleased with efforts to ease truck congestion at Richards Bay port
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Efforts to reduce truck congestion at the Richards Bay port are paying off, with Transnet saying it's pleased with the progress made so far to bring down the number of trucks moving coal for export.
The logistics company boosted transportation via coal trains from 21 to 28 locomotives a week.
It's part of the entity's recovery plan and commitment to uMhlathuze to reduce truck loads to the port.
Transnet said it conducted a test train service.

It allowed both the entity and its customers to assess the load capacity of a train and the rail friendliness of their containers.
The test focused on whether the cargo was suitable for rail loading, the status of the network, and train handling times.
Since the end of March, the train test has moved over 100,000 tons of cargo from the roads to the rail while moving over 3,000 truckloads from the road.
