Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Provincial transport officials says they're still trying to contact the families of some of the victims of the overnight crash near Newcastle.
A truck collided with a mini-bus taxi along the N11 - claiming the lives of five taxi passengers.
Ten other people were injured.
The department's Mluleki Mntungwa says preliminary investigations into the collision are under way.
He is urging motorists to obey the rules of the road to avoid further tragedies.
"We want to assure the people of KwaZulu-Natal that we are not going to be deterred by this incident. Our law enforcement officers will be all over the province to ensure that those who are breaking the rules of the road face the full might of the law," he said.
