A taxi - travelling from Johannesburg to Newcastle - collided with three other vehicles on the N11, yesterday.
Emergency personnel worked tirelessly to remove the passengers of the mini-bus taxi from the wreckage.
The Road Traffic Inspectorate's Zinhle Mngomezulu says there are no road closures in place - but traffic is slow-moving and being directed around the scene.
It's still unclear what caused the crash. Paramedics say 10 other people were hurt.
