Trail of July unrest 'instigator' Bonginkosi Khanyile set for December
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The July unrest case against former Fees Must Fall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile is going to trial later this year.

He is accused of inciting violence at an illegal gathering during the unrest that claimed the lives of over 300 people in 2021.
The court previously heard he was involved in the riots because he'd refused to accept the jailing of former president Jacob Zuma.
Khanyile appeared briefly in the Durban Regional Court on Friday.

State Prosecutor Yuri Gangai told the court that after consultations with Khanyile's attorney, they had agreed on trial dates.
It will be heard for four days in December and then resume in late January.
Before proceedings could wrap up Khanyile, wearing white pants and a black and white striped t-shirt, indicated he had something to get off his chest, saying it was for the sake of his mental health.
But the magistrate stopped him and advised him to communicate with his attorney so as to not prejudice himself.
A short while later, after speaking to his lawyer who had left earlier, Khanyile told the magistrate he'd been advised not to say anything and would file an application instead.
