Total power blackout unlikely, assures Eskom's De Ruyter
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
With many South Africans worried about the stability of our national power grid, Eskom's CEO Andre de Ruyter has moved to reassure the country that a total blackout is highly unlikely.

"Facilities are regularly inspected, maintained as part of our compliance to the national grid code. So we do have the capability to restart the grid in the highly unlikely event that a total blackout was to occur."
De Ruyter's addressed the media on Wednesday morning on the state of our power system.
The country, except for flood-hit eThekwini, entered stage 4 load shedding this week.

De Ruyter said they are looking at downgrading the schedule on Thursday.
"We have a chance of reducing load shedding tomorrow to stage 3.
"We will be communicating with you depending on the performance of the system and how that improves during the night and we are expecting a number of large units to return during the course of tomorrow."
