Tongaat residents hopeful SAHRC water probe will alleviate crisis
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Residents
in Tongaat, north of Durban, hope the investigation by the SA Human Rights
Commission will alleviate the ongoing water crisis in the area.
The commission says it's been inundated with complaints from community members who said they aren't getting enough help from the municipality.
Some have faced dire water issues since the floods.
Dr Zhinelle Brown from the Tongaat Civic Association says Tongaat's a very aged and vulnerable population with an old diversity of healthcare needs.

“Should this probe be successful it will not only alleviate disaster management but also in disease prevention so I think it is very important.
Another resident says he hopes everyone gets the opportunity to share their experience.
"I hope the commission will interview people from different levels of the municipality, ordinary citizens, pensioners, people living in flats and rural areas. Go and look at the people collecting water and interview them about why they collecting water and carrying this water.”
