Tongaat residents going on two weeks without water
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
It's been a tough two weeks without water for some residents of Tongaat, north of Durban.
Their water treatment plant was severely damaged during the recent floods.
A resident who looks after a family of six has told Newswatch about his daily struggle to get water.
"It's absolutely crazy. What I do personally is carry 25-litre containers in my car and try and fill up wherever I can, sometimes at work, sometimes around the areas that I pass that have running water, put that in the car and transport it.
"Now there's lots of challenges with that because sometimes motorists see you driving slowly and don't really understand the situation."

The community had planned a major protest on Thursday, but it was called off after the deputy mayor addressed residents on Wednesday night.
Philani Mavundla shared some of the immediate alternative water solutions the city is considering.
He says they include sourcing water from Hazelmere Dam.
"There is a water treatment plant in Uthukela River that we are looking at resuscitating so that it can supply water that side. If we do that, we can then be in a position to get more water from Hazelmere. Then we don't have to watershed. We are looking at that situation.
"The fourth option is that we are looking an option of putting what we call a portable water treatment plant."
