In Mariannhill, it's not just the taps that have run dry; the community is also dealing with power outages.

Samkeliswe Mngadi, who lives in Nagina, says it's a costly affair having no access to water and electricity.

"Life has really taken a turn that we did not expect honestly because now we as residents do not have any choice but to just accept the reality that we are actually being oppressed.

"Water tanks don't come to our area every day, they maybe come twice a week and there are many residents living in our area.

"In our area, we have low class, as well as middle-class people and these people cannot balance life accordingly because now they cannot afford to buy petrol for these generators and secondly, we have people who are pensioners, they can't afford to fill gas to cook."

eThekwini Municipality says it will take longer to restore water supply in some parts of the city due to major damage to infrastructure.

It says teams are working hard doing repairs.

The city says technicians are also working on restoring power in Nagina, Umlazi P and G sections, Shallcross, Nsimbini and several other areas experiencing outages.

Meanwhile, KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala and MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Peggy Nkonyeni on Tuesday assessed the progress on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by storms.
