Time to end gender based violence says SA Council of Churches

The SA Council of Churches says it’s time for more measures to end gender-based violence.

There’s been a spike in cases of violence against women during the lockdown with some killed.
The council’s Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana says mindsets need to change.
He says the church's lament is no longer enough.

"When we get the headline we must know that those headlines of that one woman represent a thousand others that are not in the public eye," he said.
He asks what is being done to change the culture that kills women in our society.
"Of course we are a wounded and traumatized society. It is that we have a culture of patriarchy, we bring up our children in a patriarchal mindset, and that's why we are saying the key is to change that mindset through the socialization platform."
