Thursday declared day of mourning following #KZNFloods
People from across the country will turn their attention to KwaZulu-Natal in the coming days, to remember those affected by the severe storms and floods in the province last week.
Premier Willies Mchunu says Thursday has been declared a day of mourning.
"The Provincial Executive Council has resolved to declare Thursday as the provincial day of prayer, mourning and [for a] memorial service," said Mchunu.
Mchunu says two people are still missing.
"Some 64 people who passed away are from the eThekwini Metro and six are from the Ugu District. 1,469 people found themselves displaced by the floods, while 50 people were injured," said Mchunu.
"The Provincial Executive Council has resolved to declare Thursday as the provincial day of prayer, mourning and [for a] memorial service," said Mchunu.
Mchunu and other senior provincial and eThekwini leaders addressed the media in Durban yesterday -- a week after the province was lashed by severe downpours that resulted in floods, mudslides and homes caving in.
Several roads were also undermined and left inaccessible in the wake of the storm.
The Premier said the death toll from the floods had increased to 70.
Mchunu says two people are still missing.

"We are continuing to search for the two citizens who are still missing."
